Vineyard Supervisor
Before I joined the wine business I was at university doing a bachelor of viticulture and oenology and a graduate certificate in commerce. I did six months in McLaren Vale and then did 12 months in Lake Cullulleraine near Mildura. Since then I’ve been at Coonawarra. I’m a supervisor down there with about 300 hectares and a team of about 8 people. I’m responsible for the day to day operations of the vineyards and resolving any issues that might arise.
I chose this graduate program because the company is bigger than others and leads the way in terms of viticulture, technology, sustainability and we have the best viticulture minds in the business. We also have some of the best brands around.
The company is always offering training, they’re committed to helping you grow as a person and to helping you do your job well. One of the great things about being here is the opportunity I’ve had to apply what I’ve learnt at university to my work at the vineyards and in being a part of the winemaking process.
The heritage and profile of the brands we have makes it a great place to be too – like Lindemans, Penfolds, Rosemount, Wynn’s of Connawarra. I get a lot of satisfaction in taking our products to dinner with friends and telling them about the history, the vintage, what has gone into the wines and why they are so special. It’s just a great part of the territory and why the work brings so much joy.
